Family History

This is all about your life story, not tracing your family tree timeline. It’s about what happened to you, what was it like riding a horse to school, turning on the first light in your house, or why you came to Australia. They say a picture tells a 1000 words, but does it really? Would you prefer to have a name and date next to this photo, or, a video of your ancestors telling you their story? Fill in the details to those photos, because when a family member dies, so goes your connection to discover their past. That link is gone forever and so is the golden opportunity to capture all those amazing life-lived memories.

The process in brief: Once a job has been accepted.

It’s to get to know each other, talk about what’s involved. To discuss your story and to create a storyline so that on the day of the shoot, we can keep things on track. It’s also to refresh your memory, names, dates, places and more importantly why, when and how.

We will come to your home on the arranged day and conduct the video recorded interview. The duration of this depends entirely on your story but is usually somewhere between 3 – 6 hours (with breaks for tea and coffee) this includes set-up and take down of equipment.

This is where all the magic happens. Your story is edited to  include digital photos, images and music*. The final production is usually 1-3 hours in duration.

Best Stories Plus Q&A

These are the classic family stories. Like the time when mum and dad lived in Africa, or when we got the old VW Kombi bogged in a Western Australian desert. Or maybe, why was I wearing this dress and a large cross around my neck, not to mention what the cat was doing.

This style of recording offers up the opportunity for a Question and Answer format. If you wish, we can ask questions, maybe from family members (who might remain anonymous); funny questions (we were all kids once); or confronting questions. It’s a magic way for future generations to come to see the real you!

Short Stories

Short stories is for people wishing to record a particular time or part of their life. Like when you sailed around the world or rode a horse in the Melbourne Cup. It is so important when time is running out to capture these precious memories. For people suffering from the onset of Alzheimer’s or Dementia, it’s a great opportunity to quickly record their story without fanfare or undue pressure.

The story might not be an epic waiting for Hollywood to come knocking, but to your family, it’s a cracker and priceless.

The process in brief: Once a job has been accepted.

May not be necessary or it can be done right before we film but similar to full stories, it is to establish a timeline to follow and to ensure nothing gets forgotten.

On the arranged day, we will come to your home and conduct the video recording. For clients suffering from Alzheimer’s, the recording can be done at any location. The duration of this depends entirely on your story but is usually between 1-3 hours.

Being a single story, editing is usually a much simplified process. The final story duration is usually around 1 hour.

Eulogy - have the last word

Unfortunately when it comes to talking about death or dying, we often find it too difficult, too emotional or we simply don’t know what to say. If, sadly, you find yourself coming to the end of your days, then now is the time to get prepared and have the last word. Don’t let others hog the limelight, this is your opportunity when everyone has to listen to your bad jokes. It’s your chance to set the record straight about how big that fish really was, or, saying you love someone. Whatever your message is, now is the time to act and video record your eulogy, whilst you’re still in a good mood.

The process: Once a job has been accepted.

This may not be necessary or it can be used to practice your lines. It can be done immediately prior to recording, while everything is fresh in your mind. We understand time is of the essence.

The interview can be recorded at home or any location of your choosing. However, light, sound, space and comfort need to be considered as well as permission depending upon the location.  The duration of this depends entirely on your story but is usually between 1-2 hours.

As this is a unique circumstance, editing may be a simple as adding music, photos and adjusting setting. The final story duration is usually between 15-30 minutes.

Wills - Explainer Appendix

Families are complex and often spread far and wide. When communication breakdown or separation has occurred, the opportunity to discuss your wishes may not be available. Recording an appendix explainer video to accompany your Will, gives you the ability to explain what your thoughts were and to give rationale to your wishes.

NOTE: This recording is not legally binding and in no way replaces your Will. It serves only to offer your thoughts behind your wishes in the legal document.

The process in brief: Once a job has been accepted.

There is usually no need for a seperate pre-interview, this can be done prior to recording. Usually to go over speaking and presentation techniques to minimise pauses and breaks.

On the arranged day, we will come to your home or other location and conduct the video recording. The interview is done as a single take with a time code to ensure there are no disputes that anything has been edited out. The duration of this depends entirely on your story but is usually between 0:30 – 1 hour.

Being a single take, editing is usually a much simplified process.

Time Capsule Message

This truely unique service, is about leaving a private video recording to those who live on. In the tragic case of a dying parent, one can leave a personal message for their children to view as they grow up. It might explain what has happened to you, how you felt, what were your fears but most importantly, it gives you the ability to talk directly to that child or family member. You might like to leave individual videos to each family member. This affords you the chance to speak about your wishes for their future, give them encouragement, and even laugh at some of the cherished moments you have shared together, maybe pass on some life lived tips.

The process in brief: Once a job has been accepted.

This is usually done in the days prior to filming, it is for you to get comfortable in front of the camera and practice what you’d like to say. It also gives you time to gather items you’d like to have around when the filming takes place.

On the arranged day, we will come to your home or other location and conduct the video recording. The duration of this depends entirely on your story but is usually between 1 – 3 hours.

Due to the sensitivity of this project and to ensure the editing communicates the story you wish to convey, a preliminary version will be available for approval before final touches are made to complete the story. This may mean a longer editing stage but we will work to have this completed as soon as possible.
